Our youth accounts cover a wide range of important topics, beginning with basic money concepts and graduating into money management skills for the real world.

Savvy Saver Program: Age 0-11

MFCU’s Savvy Saver program is a fun and age-appropriate way to start learning the basics about money and finances. Check out some of our great features below:

MyMoney Program: Age 12-15

MyMoney members move up to learning more advanced skills about managing their own money with seminars geared toward teens. Check out some of our great features below:

  • Access to our SmartSaver Certificate with a great rate
  • Frequent depositor program with drawings for $25 and $50 VISA Gift Cards
  • A quarterly newsletter with fun facts, games and information.
  • Access to free online financial literacy modules developed with a teen’s specific needs in mind.

Financial Freedom Program: Age 16-22
You’re at the age where you want to get out there and do your own thing. Finding your independence can be an adventure. We’d like to give you the skills to find your independence successfully. MFCU’s Financial Freedom Program teaches you everything you need to know about money including:

  • How to create a budget and give each dollar a job
  • Saving strategies to buy something you want, like a new pair of skis, a computer, even your first car
  • Choosing a credit card with the best rates and how to manage payments

Other benefits of the Financial Freedom program include:

  • Access to our SmartSaver Certificate with a great rate
  • Quarterly subscription to The Money Side of Life, written by young adults with helpful information on saving, budgeting and investing
  • Regular educational seminars
  • Eligibility for checking and credit privileges with a parent co-signer before age 22
  • Use your Financial Freedom Pass to receive discounts at the local merchants listed below:

SmartSaver Youth Certificate

Now is the time to jumpstart your child’s savings account while also instilling smart money management behavior. MFCU’s SmartSaver Certificate makes saving easy, with a minimum balance of just $100 and a 5.00% Annual Percentage Yield (APY).
Certificate Terms & Conditions

  • Members ages 0-17 1/2 only
  • Maximum certificate amount: $1,000
  • May be added to in $100 increments up to $500/month
  • Certificate matures upon child’s 18th birthday
  • Dividend rate reduced to 1.00% retroactively if funds withdrawn before maturity date and/or education requirements are not complete by maturity date.

To access their funds, SmartSaver Youth Certificate holders must complete a series of financial education classes on the following subjects:

  • Introduction to Draft Accounts
  • Budget Basics
  • Driving Home Your First Auto Loan
  • Surviving the Credit Card Onslaught

Youth Seminars are now being offered exclusively online! You can register to complete your required Smart Saver Education courses and then take them online at your convenience. Once we receive your submission, we’ll email your student credentials to you along with instructions for the Financial Education site MoneySKILL – interactive financial literacy modules designed specifically for youth.
